Nitrous Oxide
(Laughing Gas)
Gentle, effective and fast, nitrous oxide sedation is perfect for those patients who just need to "take the edge" off of their dental anxiety. The gas is inhaled through a small nasal mask, and within moments, a patient will begin to feel warm, happy and slightly numb. The mask stays on the entire time we're working, and the amount of gas can be adjusted based on the patient's comfort level. Once we're finished and the mask removed, a patient will feel completely normal within minutes and be able to resume their day.
Oral Sedation (Pill)
For many patients, oral sedation is the preferred form of "relaxation". You're simply prescribed a pill to take one hour prior to your appointment, so by the time you reach our dental office, you're already calm and cool. Often times, oral sedation will provide amnesic effects, so that you don't remember the procedure at all. Many patient will, in fact, fall asleep during the procedure. You will need to have a driver to and from your appointment with this sedation option.
Intravenous Sedation (IV Conscious Sedation)
IV moderate conscious sedation is our deepest form of sedation and allows the doctor to titrate the patient to the desired level of sedation in a controlled and safe manner. With this option, you will need a driver to and from your procedure. In addition, you should not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to the procedure to ensure safety.
