Often, crown lengthening is required when a tooth needs a new crown or restoration. This can be the case if the tooth has decay, a fracture or a previous restoration that is too far beneath the gum line, making it inaccessible to the restoring dentist or biologically incompatible. This is also a necessity if there is insufficient clinical crown height above the gum line.
During the procedure, Dr. Rasmussen will adjust the gum and bone levels around the tooth, exposing sufficient tooth structure for placement of a high quality restoration.
