What is a Periodontist?
Periodontists are specialists who are uniquely trained in providing the proper foundation for your smile, whether it involves saving natural teeth or replacing missing teeth. Their scope of expertise includes:
• Treatment of gum disease (gingivitis, moderate or advanced)
• Correction of gum recession
• Placement of dental implants
• Reconstruction of lost bone around natural teeth or areas for future implant placement
• Smile makeovers: gummy smile, botox, lip repositioning, esthetic crown lengthening
• Treatment of Peri-implantitis to protect your current implants
In addition to the four years of dental school, we spend an additional three years in an intensive residency program involving sedation training with anesthesiologists, development of a high degree of surgical skill, as well as working interactively with general dentists and other specialists and medical professionals. In essence, periodontists spend a minimum of 11 years in training!
Why Choose a Periodontist?
The additional training beyond dental school involves treating many patients with the "best of the best" as teachers and professors. By working with a periodontist, you are ensured the most effective treatment for your condition, as we spend an extensive amount of time practicing "evidence-based" treatment for our patients. There are certainly a number of treatment modalities available, from deep cleanings, surgery, laser therapy, etc. You should rely on the experience of somebody that has all tools available to them and can make the best solution to fit you - not a one-size-fits-all approach. You are unique and an individual - your treatment should be individual, as well.
